In 1982, CAPT Owen Martin was skipper of BREWTON through 26 May 1982.
I relieved Captain Martin in the South China Sea on 26 May 1982 ... that day ... early in the pre dawn morning ... under Captain Martin's command ... BREWTON rescued 82 Vietnames refugees on a "wooden ship upon the water" (See BREWTON Westpac-Indian Ocean 82 Cruise Book, page 70).
If any or our BREWTON shipmates have recollections of this great rescue effort... for which the crew of BREWTON earned the Humanitarian Service Medal ... your post would be greatly apreciated.
